The side project of Rilo Kiley guitarist and former child star Blake Sennett released its third album this past Tuesday. Bury Me In My Rings continues Sennett’s progression from an alt-country version of Elliott Smith to a West Coast singer-songwriter sheen, all polished production and impeccable hooks. It’s a bit sad to see the immediacy of their debut Me First fade into a collage of carefully put together studio sounds and orchestration, but Sennett’s talent as a songwriter can’t be ignored. “Who Are You” is a haunting ballad mixing the best of Sennett’s sound: emotional, yet flawlessly put together into an intricate composition.
