Kanye West – Can’t Tell Me Nothing (GRiZ Remix)

By , December 2, 2011 10:00 am

Fantastic electro house remix of a classic Kanye West track. GRiZ is a Detroit-based producer who has been beat-making since he was fourteen, with an emphasis on electro and dubstep sounds. What really stands out on his tracks, particularly in this remix, is his use of jazzy inflections (check out the sexy sax on this one) and a preference for funk and melody rather than just blasting you with filth. One of the better remixes of the year.

Candyland – Pirates (MitiS Remix)

By , November 25, 2011 10:00 am

Happy belated Thanksgiving! To get the party started right after the tryptophan wears off, I have two upcoming acts in the electro house/blog house scene for you: Candyland is an electro/dubstep duo from Santa Barbara with an innovative live show (see photo), and MitiS is a classically-trained pianist from the Pennsylvanian heartland who describes his blend of electro as the “new age Classical.” Not sure how Mozart would feel about that given the filthy sounds emanating from this remix, but who knows? Check out their Facebooks and show some emerging artists the love.

Noisia – Tommy’s Theme

By , October 7, 2011 10:00 am

Another Noisia track, another filthy bit of dubstep (this time accentuated by some haunting horror-movie strings). Seriously, let me know when these guys produce a dud. This is up there with at new Pretty Lights song I posted a couple weeks back as one of the better electronic tunes in the second half of ’11.

Pretty Lights – I Know The Truth (Original Mix)

By , September 23, 2011 10:00 am

The filthy dubstep banger that Pretty Lights dropped way back this past June at Bonnaroo finally saw a original mix release earlier this week. I’ve been dying for a studio version of this ever since I saw the awesome video of his performance, and it delivers.

Calvin Harris – Flashback (Millions Like Us Remix)

By , August 19, 2011 10:00 am

Appropriately filthy remix of a great Calvin Harris track from UK producer trio Millions Like Us. Just saw Calvin at the Encore Beach Club this past Sunday in Las Vegas and he absolutely killed it, although nothing he played upped the bass as much as this remix does.

Savoy – I’m In Need

By , August 12, 2011 10:00 am

Brand new track from Boulder, CO electro group Savoy just released this week. “I’m In Need” is some serious straight bass to your face, and unlike so many wub-wub-WUB bullshit going around the blogs lately it actually has a danceable beat and fits nicely in a club playlist. Buy it on Beatport and support an up-and-coming force…

Diplo & Datsik – Pick Your Poison ft. Kay

By , August 5, 2011 11:00 am

New single from Diplo’s own record label Mad Decent just dropped this intriguing collaboration between the jack-of-all-trades DJ and filthstep expert Datsik earlier this week. It sounds about as you’d expect a collab between the two to sound like – a pumping, upbeat club rhythm interspersed with some grimy bass and walloping drops. One of the best genre partnerships I’ve heard in a while.

Submotion Orchestra – Angel Eyes

By , July 20, 2011 12:00 pm

Submotion Orchestra is a “post-dubstep” project from Leeds in the UK that uses the multi-instrumental talents of its members and lovely vocalist Ruby Wood to create an enchanting atmosphere that mixes jazz, trip-hop and dubstep into a beguiling stew. It’s a fresh and interesting take on a genre that has rapidly started to become stale, and opener “Angel Eyes” off Finest Hour is a fine example of what you can expect from these guys.

Dodge & Fuski – No Love Lost

By , July 15, 2011 12:00 pm

A drum ‘n bass duo from the United Kingdom, Dodge & Fuski started making a name for themselves near the end of last year with multiple releases honing that “drumstep sound” – high BPM drums with plenty of filthy wobbles thrown in for your average brostepper. “No Love Lost” is their newest and best, with just the kind of relentless energy you’d expect from dudes who claim to “drink too much tea.” Hard to get more British than that…

Datsik – Hydraulic

By , July 8, 2011 10:00 am

Canadian filthstep pioneer Datsik released a new flip-side a month ago – as you can tell from the A-side below, it slays just as robotically as his earlier stuff. If you like your dubstep industrial and with no trace of human emotion, then get on it. It’s a little harsh on record, but if you can see this guy live you have to do it. Absolutely killer.

Reso – War Machine

By , July 1, 2011 10:00 am

UK producer Reso released his brutal Valken EP this past February with “War Machine” the hard-hitting leadoff track. Reso incorporates everything from dubstep to drum ‘n bass to breaks to electro and on, as one listen to “War Machine” makes clear. Hold on, I’m gonna go take some speed…

Borgore – Someone Elses ft. Adi Ulmansky (Document One Remix)

By , June 24, 2011 11:00 am

Israeli filthstep expert Borgore dropped his new EP Delicious a few weeks back, and it’s about what you’d expect from the man: grinding synths, pounding bass, and lyrics that you can’t exactly bring home to your mother. Standard “gorestep,” in other words. But this Document One remix tacked onto the end of things takes things in a more house-y direction, although the breakdown is as filthy as ever.
