After last year’s delightfully weird, out-of-left-field batch of oddball tech-house, Delicacies, I had no idea what to expect from Simian Mobile Disco. They’ve made it a habit never to stay in one place for too long, and Unpatterns, their third proper album (Delicacies was technically a compilation of singles), continues that trend, although it remains rooted in the tech house scene they’ve been exploring for the past couple of years. Where Delicacies was undeniably strange and, at times, a bit creepy, Unpatterns is more straightforward and, dare I say, danceable. “Your Love Ain’t Far,” one of my current favorites, pulses and grooves imperceptibly forward on the strength of that drop-step drum and that soulful vocal motif. Unpatterns drops May 29.

Plasmapool flagship artist Mord Fustang recently released yet another killer EP of new material entitled Welcome to the Future, and if there’s a DJ out there looking to claim the crown of fastest up-and-coming star, they’re going to have a hard time wresting it away from the Estonian Ecstasy. Each of his singles has gotten progressively more airplay while building on and refining his sound. That sound is a nice mixture of wobbly low-end bass and a whirling-dervish of space-age synths, with an overarching emphasis on melody and that essential groove that makes this fit in just as well in the club as it does on headphones. This guy’s gonna be headlining bigger and bigger electronic music events soon – with Welcome to the Future and, in particular, “Windwaker” (which is a fine example of everything Fustang does well), 2012 is already shaping up to be his year.

Anticipation continues to build for Miike Snow’s sophomore album, which is scheduled for a March 26 release. The group has so far released two songs from the upcoming record (the first of which you can hear here), and the remixes are already starting to flow in. None hit so hard as electro producer Wolfgang Gartner’s reworking of “Paddling Out,” which transforms the original into a banging electro number with a heavy club-oriented feel. Just saw Gartner a few weeks back at Surrender Nightclub in Las Vegas; very much looking forward to seeing Miike Snow at Coachella 2012 - everything other time I’ve seen them live has been an absolute blast.

New collaboration between Dim Mak artist Dirty Disco Youth and fellow Euro Fukkk Offf. Tight, mechanical electro with a fat bassline and a martial drumbeat that I love.

New electro house feast from Canadian stars Zeds Dead. No one works harder than these guys, I feel like they release a new track every month. And they never suck.
Zeds Dead – “Ruckus The Jam”

It’s not often that house superstar Kaskade brings the filth to a party – the Mormon producer/DJ has always been more of an uplifting, house anthem kind of guy. But this remix of Zedd’s new track “Shave It” absolutely goes. Those synths are nothing to sneer at, and the remix as a whole boosts the song considerably. Give it a spin.

And the reward for most Euro-sounding song title goes to….but seriously, this track slays. Be it trance or house or, as “Maximal Crazy” proves, synth-tearing electro, Dutch legend Tiësto still knows how to make an anthem. I still stand by his 2010 Coachella show as one of the greatest I’ve ever seen, and if he keeps producing tracks like this, I can’t wait to see him again.

Las Vegas last weekend and law school orientation this week has the Klap going slow, so sorry about that. Paying my respects to the mau5 today: new track that goes quite hard in relation to the rather lackluster (in my opinion) 4×4=12. Nuff said.

New Spencer & Hill track, which means a tasty new electro/house jam from one of the masters. This one has a particularly fat bass drop to it that helps it stand out from the rest of your blog house. Grab it and make sure to see them live if they ever come around near you – their set at HARD Haunted Mansion Atlantis last year was epic. Speaking of, Haunted Mansion 2011 just released their lineup, check it out: http://artists-haunted.hardfest.com/

Wolfgang Gartner’s long-awaited debut album Weekend in America finally drops September 20, and yesterday was the official release of some fresh Gartner material. “Menage a Trois” is not as easy to like as past crowd pleasers like “Firepower” or “Undertaker;” indeed, it’s glitchy as fuck. But it’s an interesting tack for the deadmau5 protege and definitely does the dirty on the dance floor. Buy it on Beatport and make sure to check out his album next month.

New collaboration between Serbian DJ Dirty South and German producer Thomas Gold, this baby first premiered in my hometown at Electric Daisy Carnival in Orlando this past May. What I really dig about this are Kate Elsworth’s vocals, which some may see as your standard underground DJ/vocalist trying to make a name for herself but fits really well in the scheme of the track. For anyone who has seen Dirty South live, this song fits right with the best of his mixes: absolute house anthem potential.

Ever since A-Trak and Armand van Helden dropped this at Coachella, people have been clamoring for the new Duck Sauce. After countless live rips and radio sneak peeks, it’s finally here, and, well, it’s pretty much exactly how you thought it would sound. “Big Bad Wolf” is as simple as a house song gets, but so was “Barbra Streisand,” and “Big Bad Wolf” is just as fun and frothy as that hit.
